Ofsted & Inspection Reports

We are very proud of our recent Ofsted report in June 2023 where we achieved outstanding judgements in 4 out of 5 areas with a good judgement overall.  Ofsted commented on the following:

  • “Pupils, families and staff are proud to be part of this caring community. Leaders have created a supportive and nurturing environment where pupils feel safe. Relationships between staff and pupils are very positive. Parents and carers praise the dedication of staff and the support they receive from leaders.
  • Pupils enjoy coming to this school. They are eager to learn, and behave extremely well. They are highly motivated, and support and encourage each other. They are polite and courteous and develop in confidence as they move up the school.
  • Pupils are enthusiastic about their outdoor play areas. During breaktimes, they enjoy varied activities, including dance, sport and the mud kitchen. After-school clubs are well attended, and pupils have varied opportunities to develop their talents and interests.
  • Leaders have established a strong and supportive culture. Staff and parents praise the exceptional level of care that leaders provide. Staff know their well-being is a priority for leaders. Staff are highly motivated, and there is a restless drive for improvement across all aspects of the school. Staff value the ongoing training they receive from across the federation as well as from external experts. As a result, teachers continue to develop their subject knowledge.
  • Leaders have ensured that a well-organised and well-sequenced curriculum is in place for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils access the full range of national curriculum subjects. They look forward to ‘Fantastic Fridays’, where they are taught computing, art, engineering … by subject specialists.”

St Thomas' Ofsted & Inspection Reports

SIAMS Inspection

We had our statutory inspection of Anglican schools in March 2020 and were graded as excellent in all areas.  The key findings were as follows:

  • A clear, explicit and ambitious Christian vision is shared by leaders, governors and staff and lived out in every aspect of the school’s life so that adults and pupils, regardless of their faith or background, are valued, thrive and flourish.
  • Pupils enter the school with lower than average levels of attainment. However, the school’s clear vision leads to excellent, personalised and compassionate support so that, each one makes excellent progress and, by the time they leave the school, most attain standards that are higher than national expectations.
  • The vision leads to a strong sense of community in all the school does and pupils love the high levels of engagement with the cultural diversity around them. In partnership with the parish church, the school is recognised as a beacon of hope and a centre of reconciliation and support to the community it serves.
  • Collective worship is an articulation of the school’s inclusive vision. It is deeply Christian, yet its richness and variety embraces pupils of all faiths and beliefs and affirms all who attend.
  • Religious Education (RE) is expertly taught. As an outworking of the vision, pupils learn deep lessons about Christianity and can make strong and relevant connections between the other faiths they study.

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is a grant given to schools for each child who claims free school meals currently, or who has done so in the past six years. Research has shown that pupils who have been or are on free school meals do not attain as highly as other children in school. The government provides this grant so we can allocate additional support to ensure that disadvantaged children do attain well. The support can be for different periods of time, and may take the form of one-to-one support, small group teaching or additional teacher support in class. It could also be access to opportunities that enhance learning and aspiration.

Our aims, when considering how to spend this grant, are to close the gap in academic attainment for disadvantaged pupils; and to ensure that all pupils are given the same opportunities to develop their academic, spiritual, emotional, cultural and social potential.

Sports Premium

Primary schools receive a sports premium to fund additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport, to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles.

Schools cannot use the premium to fund coaches covering planning, preparation and assessment time for teachers, or to meet the costs of delivery the minimum requirements of national curriculum PE, including swimming. These costs come from the school’s main budget.

St Clement & St James Pupil Outcomes

We are proud of the high standards pupils reach at St Clement & St James. By the time they leave the school many children are working above the national average at both the expected standard and at greater depth.

Aims

Our main aims are:

  • To close the gap in attainment for PP pupils in all subjects
  • To maintain high expectations and standards for all PP pupils
  • To ensure that all pupils are given the same opportunities to develop their potential and participate in activities in and outside school

This statement details our school’s use of pupil premium for the 2023 to 2025 academic years to help improve the attainment of disadvantaged pupils.

It outlines the school’s pupil premium strategy, how the school intends to spend the funding in this academic year and the effect that last year’s spending of pupil premium funding had within the school.

Compare Schools

The government provides an online service that allows parents to compare schools across England. Using the Compare School Performance website, you can view key information about schools, including pupil progress, attainment, Ofsted ratings, and attendance data. This helps parents make informed decisions when choosing a school for their child. The service allows you to search by school name, postcode, or local authority area. You can also compare several schools side by side.

Visit the official comparison service to explore school performance data in more detail.
