SIAMS Inspection

We had our statutory inspection of Anglican schools in March 2020 and were graded as excellent in all areas. The key findings were as follows:

A clear, explicit and ambitious Christian vision is shared by leaders, governors and staff and lived out in every aspect of the school’s life so that adults and pupils, regardless of their faith or background, are valued, thrive and flourish.
Pupils enter the school with lower than average levels of attainment. However, the school’s clear vision leads to excellent, personalised and compassionate support so that, each one makes excellent progress and, by the time they leave the school, most attain standards that are higher than national expectations.
The vision leads to a strong sense of community in all the school does and pupils love the high levels of engagement with the cultural diversity around them. In partnership with the parish church, the school is recognised as a beacon of hope and a centre of reconciliation and support to the community it serves.
Collective worship is an articulation of the school’s inclusive vision. It is deeply Christian, yet its richness and variety embraces pupils of all faiths and beliefs and affirms all who attend.
Religious Education (RE) is expertly taught. As an outworking of the vision, pupils learn deep lessons about Christianity and can make strong and relevant connections between the other faiths they study.

We are proud of the very strong progress pupils make at St Thomas’. By the time they leave the school many children are working at national expectations and at greater depth.

St Thomas' Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium (PP) is a grant given to schools for each child who claims free school meals currently or who has done so in the past six years. Research has shown that pupils who have been or are on free school meals do not attain as highly as other children in school.

The government provides this grant so we can allocate additional support to ensure that disadvantaged children do attain well. The support can be in a short burst or over a longer period such as a term or a year or more.

It may take the form of one-to-one support, small group teaching or additional teacher support in class. It could also be enrichment or access to opportunities that enhance learning and aspiration.

Aims

Our main aims are:

To close the gap in attainment for PP pupils in all subjects
To maintain high expectations and standards for all PP pupils
To ensure that all pupils are given the same opportunities to develop their potential and participate in activities in and outside school
